Nova Scotia’s Guy Hobbs is among the artists chosen for this year’s collection with Company of Wolves, a piece that honors and respects the wild societies trying to survive next to our own. Wolves have largely disappeared from the landscape in Atlantic Canada, so Hobbs had to travel to see them. While taking reference photos, Hobbs had the rare privilege of observing three generations in a single pack, which quickly became the inspiration for his winning work. “I was struck by the organized society and social complexity of the pack, as well as the diversity of character within the group,” says Hobbs of his often elusive subjects.
